The Challenge: The Limitations of "Stock + Print"
A client required a range of premium merchandise featuring intricate Indigenous artwork for Supply Nation. The creative brief demanded edge-to-edge (full-bleed) printing on notebooks and tote bags, as well as seamless circular branding on tapered reusable coffee cups.
Standard industry models often rely on "stock + print"—taking a pre-made item and applying a logo to a small designated area. However, this project faced two major technical roadblocks:
1. Print Area Constraints: Stock items cannot be printed edge-to-edge because the seams and edges interfere with the machinery.
2. Complex Geometry: Achieving a perfect, undistorted circular wrap on a curved surface is notoriously difficult with standard overprinting.
Our Solution: In-House Manufacturing from Scratch
To fulfill the creative vision without compromising on quality or budget, we bypassed the stock model entirely. By managing the production in-house from the raw material stage, we achieved a level of customization typically reserved for luxury retail.
1. Fabric-First Printing (Totes & Notebooks)
Instead of printing on finished bags, we utilized a "Print-then-Cut" workflow:
• The Process: We printed the complex Indigenous patterns directly onto large rolls of high-quality canvas and cover material first.
• The Result: Only after the printing was perfected did we cut and sew the items. This allowed the artwork to flow seamlessly into the seams and over the edges, achieving a high-impact, premium "all-over" look that is impossible with pre-made stock.
2. Advanced Precision Wrapping (Reusable Cups)
For the matte black coffee cups, we utilized specialized in-house equipment to handle the circular orientation:
• The Process: We calibrated our printing hardware to account for the taper of the cup, ensuring the circular Indigenous motifs remained geometrically perfect without "stretching" or "bleeding."
• The Result: A crisp, multi-color wrap that aligns perfectly with the Supply Nation branding.
The Result: High-End Customization at a Managed Cost
By taking production in-house, we didn't just solve the technical challenge—we optimized the budget. Eliminating the middle-man markup of stock items allowed us to redirect funds toward higher-quality print finishes.
Project Highlights:
• Edge-to-Edge Execution: Full-bleed coverage on the notebook and tote bag for maximum visual impact.
• Bespoke Finishing: Integrated yellow handles and elastic closures that color-match the artwork perfectly.
• Cost-Effective Scalability: Achieved a custom-manufactured result at a price point competitive with basic promotional products.
